Wiltshire is the ideal base for your sight-seeing holiday From Stratford-upon-Avon to the North, Salisbury and the coast to the South, London to the East with Bath and Cheddar to the West. All within a couple of hours travelling time. Not to mention innumerable places in between.

Wiltshire itself has a mysterious and magical past, rich in the history of early man. The stone circles of Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain, Avebury between Devizes and Swindon, both World Heritage Sites. Then there's Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, Wood Henge, Old Sarum, various castles. And crop circles.

If you are into walking, how about Wiltshire's "White Horse Trail". A 90 mile circular tour of all eight white horses, taking in some of the most stunning landscapes of Southern England, including the Ridgeway, Europe's oldest road. 'Walking in Wiltshire' (from Tourist Information Centres) have 10 walks, mostly suitable for families and away from the madding crowd

Visit historical towns such as Devizes and Marlborough. stroll round Pewsey, Wiltshire's largest village. See "PLACES TO SEE" for a comprehensive list.

 

 

 

 

 

Perhaps you are more into cycling. The Wiltshire cycleway winds its way through peaceful country lanes and takes in a lot of the counties most attractive places. The 'Wiltshire Cycleway' leaflet (again from Tourist Information Centres) will provide the information needed to enjoy anything from a quiet afternoon ride to a long distance tour taking several days.

Then there are the off-road routes. The 'Off-Road Cycling in Wiltshire' pack gives details of 10 circular routes ranging from 6 to 31 miles. taking in some of Wiltshire's most beautiful landscapes, ranging from easy through to strenuous.

 

 

 

 

 

Walking and Cycling not for you. Well how about a peaceful canal holiday, horse riding, fishing, golf, motor sports, water recreation, hang gliding. In fact most anything for the outdoor type of person.

But if that doesn't take your fancy, just book into one of our welcoming "Hotels""Bed and Breakfasts, "Self Catering" or "Camp Sites" and take leisurely day trips, touring the sites of the county and the rest of the South West of England.
